Holi the so-called Hindu festival which is celebrated on the fortnight (full moon day) of Phalguna which occurs in the middle or starting of month of March according to the Gregorian calendar. Let me answer most basic questions which I think after reading many people of other religion will get to know whether people of other religion like CHRISTIAN & MUSLIM can celebrate this festival Holi or not or whether by celebrating Holi does they are opposing to the tenets of their scripture, find the full truth from your own scripture.
Basic questions and answers regarding Holi
What is Holi? Background?
It is a festival of colours in which people smear colours on their relatives and friends and to the unknowns too, forgetting envy, jealousy and everything which makes a man a negative person, having a positive mind, playing musical instruments especially the Dholak (drums), singing, dancing and trying to make the environment light and happy by saying Shayari (Poetry).
It is celebrated after the Holika Dahan (after the burning of Bonfire). The bonfire symbolizes Holika, the demon Hiranyakashipu sister who was killed in the burning fire but the devotee of lord Hari or Vishnu named as Prahlad whom the demon Holika made him sat on her lap didn’t get burn but at the same time the evil Holika got burned, so in a way it was a win over badness by lord devotee Prahlad.
It is celebrated as a day on which the evil is not able to overcome the good.
It is not only about Hindu religion, it is about the whole human origin to celebrated something which is good. Above are only the story which is related with this festival, actually the crucial part of this festival is to celebrated the goodness.
I have one question to ask everyone, please let me know, people who don’t celebrate Holi and are against it, please tell me what is so bad in celebrating something Good which gives a good lesson to the society.
Can Christian play Holi? See what Bible says.
I know that many people of this religion things that we cannot follow to do something which is not related to our religion or which is not commanded by our God or Jesus or by Holy Spirit. Well it is nice if your following the teaching of goodness and so ardent in practically doing it.
- Hatred stirs up contention, but love covers all the sins. Proverb 10:12
- Do everything with love and charity. 1 Corinthians 16:14
- God is love because whoever does not love does not know God. 1 John 4:8
- It is my Commandment, that you should love one another as I loved you. John 15:12
- Submit yourselves with one another in love of God. Ephesians 5:21
Try to assimilate this that the basic tenets on which the festival Holi is based is on a story which reflects or the outcome is upon Good. There is another story related to it is about the God of love, Kama (cupid) who is being burnt by lord Shiva and get restores after the arduous penance of his wife, so in a way it is a festival of love.
Holi is celebrated to celebrate love and goodness, let us see what bible says about it.

Even Bible says that we should not only respect good but at the same time try to do good to others, so in a similar way if anyone is celebrating good, it doesn’t matter in whatever way we celebrate it, it is just that we should see the intention behind it and the intention behind playing or celebrating Holi is to celebrate goodness which in happen in the past and which we will continue to happen in the future and it is happening in the present too.
In Bible we can find the story of the release of the Israelites from slavery with the help of prophet Moses, the birth of the Christ and many more which culminated into good things, so in a manner the Christians too can celebrated Holi to celebrate the good things or goodness which happened according to the bible.
But still there are many people in the world who are so negative that they oppose this kind of universal festival not knowing the essence of the festival, their intention is to create a havoc and some kind of tension in the society by disturbing the peace of universal brotherhood, why think of nationalism let us be broad, let us think of internationalism brotherhood.
Can Muslim play Holi? See what Quran says.
It is pretty much clear that if Bible says anything then it is definitely taken into consideration by the Quranic followers because both are Abrahamic religion and it has to do something with the words of the God.
- Love others and god will love you because god love those who loves. Al-Baqarah 2:195
- God loves the doers of good. Ali ‘Imran 3:134,148. see here in this verse it is clearly mentioned that God loves the doer of good and to be a part of something which is made from the ancient time to celebrate goodness then it is a good thing in God perception.
- And he planted love and compassion between you. Ar-Rum 30:21. People play holy in love not in hate and this verse clearly state that God himself planted love into human beings.
Let us see what the Quran says about celebrating anything which has to do with Love or simply is it any kind of problem to celebrate love in any form which creates a pleasant environment like playing Holi to celebrate love.
See if we go on to search in the whole Quran then we will find that God loves those who loves others and do good to others and are Charitable. Then if we celebrate Holi in the name of Goodness I don’t think that there is any kind of problem which the Quran or Bible will hinder.
Holi is not a religion festival it is a festival of religions. Every religion teaches us Good and if something is stopping us from respecting the culture of other religion, we should then think that it is not a religion which is stopping us but it is a human mind who intentionally wants creates dissension between peoples or homo-sapiens.
Try to understand this we all are created by one force and if we are doing something, anything then you have to admit that without that force we cannot do anything, so directly he the one and only force is making us do those things.
Now I leave fully on you whether you want to believe something blindly or with some logic because we all know that logic has nothing to do with faith but Goodness has and Holi celebrate goodness not any religion.
